Young military couples who face a daunting host of challenges in planning their weddings can get help. Brides Across America, a charitable organization established in 2007, has gathered a list of bridal stores across the country that offer overstock and sample wedding dresses to military brides either for free, or very low prices. To qualify, couples must be engaged, or have had a civil ceremony and intend to wed formally within 18 months. Either one of the couple must have deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Libya, Kuwait, or Japan within the past five years, and not had a formal wedding. Persons deploying to those countries also qualify. Military brides must present a driver’s license or military identification card, and a copy of deployment papers, when they visit participating bridal stores.
