The Defense Department has lifted the civilian hiring freeze that had been in effect since March 20. Defense News reported June 20 that the Pentagon made the move because leadership now is satisfied that all relevant data has been transferred to the new Fourth Estate Manpower Tracking System (FMTS). Under the system, Pentagon personnel managers will be able to better track hiring and firing, and which jobs need to be filled.
