Holly Petraeus, the wife of U.S. Central Command commander Gen. David Petraeus, has agreed to become the Treasury Department’s point person in matters relating to protecting military consumers from unscrupulous trade practices. In her new role, Petraeus will establish the Office of Service Member Affairs at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a Treasury agency. She will spearhead efforts to ensure that military families are properly taught how to make sound financial decisions, field consumer-related complaints and questions from military families, and coordinate efforts with state and local authorities to protect military families from rip-off artists. "It’s been my great privilege to be part of the military community my entire life," said Petraeus. "I am honored to have the opportunity both to represent them and to support them as a part of this new consumer protection agency, and I pledge that I will do my utmost to see that their concerns are heard and addressed."
