The House Veterans Affairs Committee approved a provision that would place a five-year moratorium upon bonuses for executives at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., the committee chairman, sponsored the measure in reaction to reports that VA executives received large bonuses despite the department’s failure to come to grips with the increased backlog in pending claims from veterans seeking disability compensation and other benefits.
