Housing Database Loses Affiliation

The database that provides service members with information on housing has lost its Defense Department affiliation. Service members can still use the Automated Housing Referral Network to search its database for rental properties near duty stations. However, because of the loss of DoD affiliation, the database may not be up to date or complete. The Defense Department made the decision to withdraw affiliation because the network does not meet DoD information technology or information assurance requirements. Without Pentagon support, property managers and landlords likely will choose not to fund and support property-rental listings. Until the issues are resolved, service members should seek property-referral help from their base housing office. In the meantime, the department is working to develop a replacement system. The fix should take about six months.
