The Navy awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries a $51-million modification to an existing contract, to perform life-cycle engineering and support services on San Antonio-class amphibious transport docks. Seapower Magazine reported Dec. 16 that the modification includes post-delivery planning and engineering, systems integration and engineering support, research engineering, material support, fleet modernization program planning, supply chain management, maintenance, and training for certain shipboard systems. San Antonio-class ships provide support for the Marine Corps’ air-ground task force, and are capable of carrying and delivering personnel, ground vehicles, helicopters, and MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. The work will take place at the company’s Pascagoula, Miss., shipyard.
