The Army intends to focus considerable effort to restore eight active and five reserve component units to full operational status as they return from deployments, under a new pilot program. While the idea of "resetting" units is not new, the term typically referred to replenishing equipment only. Soldiers and their families also will receive attention under the pilot, with the goal of making sure those units are completely prepared for future missions. Returning units’ equipment will garner initial focus; soon afterward, attention would shift to reuniting soldiers and their families and attending their quality-of-life needs. Then, soldiers would resume training for their next deployments. The pilot will run for 15 months at first, with the intent of expanding to two years. The affected units are:

* 82nd Airborne Division headquarters

* 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division

* 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division

* 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division

* 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team

* 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade

* 43rd Area Support Group
