Hackers likely affiliated with the Islamic State for Iraq and Syria (ISIS) hacked the Twitter and YouTube social-media accounts of U.S. Central Command Jan. 12. The hackers posted documents they claimed were “confidential,” which upon further inspection appear to be routine communications transmissions. The hack also contained several direct threats to U.S. service members. “ISIS is already here, we are in your PCs, in each military base,” the hackers wrote. “U.S. soldiers! We’re watching you!” Access to the two CENTCOM sites was suspended immediately. “There was no operational impact to CENTCOM,” the Pentagon said in a statement acknowledging the hack. The matter has been turned over to military and federal law-enforcement agencies.
