Army Pfc. Bradley Manning, who stands accused of leaking thousands of pages of classified documents to WikiLeaks, lost a bid to have 10 of the 22 charges pending against him dropped. The military judge, Army col. Denise Lind, rejected the contention of Manning’s defense lawyers that the charges in question were unconstitutional. Manning is accused of leaking the material while serving as a military intelligence analyst in Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division. WikiLeaks later released the information, which included records about military operations in Afghanistan, on its Web site. Manning’s trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 21 at Fort Meade, Md. If convicted, he could receive life in prison.
