Active-duty components of the four armed services all met recruiting goals for July, with the Marine Corps showing the most significant gain. The Army recruited 6,199 new soldiers; the Navy, 3,421 new sailors; the Air Force, 2,654 new airmen; with 3,421 young men and women joining the Marines, ahead of its monthly goal of 3,007. While the Army Guard fell short of its recruiting goal with 2,562 accessions instead of the 3,549 the service had hoped for, the Army Reserve enlisted 1,628 new soldiers, ahead of its monthly goal of 1,326. The Navy Reserve and Air Reserve met their goals, with 688 and 907 new members respectively. The Air Guard fell slightly short, with 832 new members instead of 855. Again, though, the Marine Reserve far exceeded its recruiting goal of 565, drawing in 1,135 new members.
