The U.S. will keep roughly 28,000 troops in South Korea, President Bush announced during an April 20 press conference. “This is a mutual agreement that benefits both our nations and will strengthen our alliance,” Bush told members of the news media at Camp David, Md., as South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak stood with him. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and his Korean counterpart, Lee Hang-See, will determine where the troops will be stationed.
