With the Jan. 23 decommissioning of the USS Rodney M. Davis, the Navy bade goodbye to the last Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate in the fleet. The ceremony took place at Everett Naval Station, Wash., Davis’ homeport, with plank owners, former crewmembers, and family in attendance. Davis returned to Everett Dec. 9 from her final six-month deployment, to the Western Pacific and Indian oceans. The ship first saw service in 1987. “Every one of these sailors – past, present and future – made personal sacrifices every day to protect our families, our friends, and our countrymen,” said Cmdr. Todd Whalen, Davis’ last commanding officer.
