A military attorney assigned to defend Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl said the soldier should receive medals and honors. Bergdahl faces charges of misbehavior before the enemy and desertion, stemming from his 2009 disappearance from his post while serving in Afghanistan. Stars and Stripes reported Jan. 12 that Lt. Col. Franklin Rosenblatt, one of Bergdahl’s lawyers, believes the soldier has earned the Prisoner of War, Purple Heart, Afghanistan Campaign and NATO medals for his ordeal. Failure to acknowledge the awards could prejudice a jury, Rosenblatt said. Bergdahl is scheduled to stand trial in August at Fort Bragg, N.C.
