The Navy christened its latest littoral combat ship during a Jan. 14 ceremony at Mobile Ala., where it was built Like other ships in its class, the USS Coronado (LCS 4) is capable of running counter-mine and anti-submarine operations, and protect against fast surface craft. Coronado can operate in waters as shallow as less than 20 feet, and reach speeds in excess of 40 knots. The new ship’s modular design will specifically be able to alter its missions in a few days.
