Maintenance Issues Caused Helo Crash

Improper maintenance caused the Jan 23 crash of a Marine Corps UH1-Y Venom helicopter, the Marine Corps Times reported Oct. 26. The Times article cited an official report, which it obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. The aircraft’s transmission fluid drained from its case in mid-flight because a filter was not properly installed, the report stated. Two Marines – Maj. Elizabeth Kealey and Capt. Adam Saterfield – died in the crash.
