Following his conviction for violating the Espionage Act and other related charges last month, Pvt. Bradley Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison and received a dishonorable discharge on Aug. 21. The charges related to a series of leaks Manning delivered to WikiLeaks, the Web site that focuses on publishing secret documents online, in 2009. He worked as an Army intelligence analyst at the time. He was arrested a year later, when a hacker told the FBI that Manning had divulged his activities during an online chat. The material included hundreds of thousands of U.S. diplomatic cables and Army reports, and included videos of combat missions. Manning, who recently announced he is female and hence wanted to adopt the first name of Chelsea, will be eligible for parole in 35 years. He is serving his sentence at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
