Marine Afghan Deployment Extended

The 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, will spend one month longer than originally scheduled in Afghanistan. The Defense Department announced the tour extension on Aug. 5. The unit will now remain in Afghanistan, conducting its mission to train local forces, through November. Meanwhile, Pentagon leaders are still working to determine if U.S. strength in Afghanistan will rise. Commanders in the country would like at least three more brigade combat teams.
