The Marine Corps plans to continue mandatory anthrax immunizations for members who are at risk of exposure to the deadly disease, the service announced in an Aug. 10 directive. Under the guideline, Marines assigned to duty in U.S. Central Command’s Joint Task Force Horn of Africa area of responsibility, or on the Korean peninsula for a period of 15 days or longer, will be required to take the immunization. Active-duty members, reservists, and civilians who began anthrax immunization protocols that are no longer mandatory can continue the process on a voluntary basis.
