A contingent from the Marine Corps’ Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force began training in Tifnit, Morocco, April 3, with an eye toward demonstrating the ability to move quickly into areas the State Department identified as high-risk. The 350 Marines moved into their Tifnit landing zone on MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, from Moron Air Base, Spain. Once on the ground, they set up a security perimeter. Roughly 150 Moroccan troops, and representative cadres from several other European and African partners, also were taking part in the exercise – dubbed African Lion.
