During a visit to Camp Fallujah, Iraq, in early April, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps John Estrada said the Corps is considering an extension to fiscal 2008 of $10,000 Assignment Incentive Pay for re-enlistments. He told Marines at a town hall meeting it was important for them to stay long enough to help the Marine Corps reach its goal of a 1:2 deployment-to-dwell ratio. He added that Marines who intend to leave the Corps should consider affiliating with the Selected Marine Corps Reserve. A three-year commitment could qualify them for a $5,000 bonus, he said.
