The Marine Corps missed its January recruiting goal, which is
the first monthly goal it has missed in almost ten years. It
missed its target of 3,270 recruits by 84. Marine officials
say that the Marine Corps remains slightly ahead, however, for
the fiscal year that began last October, and they expect to
meet their goal for the year. In addition, the Marine Corps
has an ample number of recruits for boot camp because it began
the fiscal year with 52 percent of its 2005 quota already in
the pipeline.
