The Marine Corps reactivated three units – including a fighter squadron to accommodate the first East-Coast home of the F-35 Lightning II.

Seapower magazine reported that the units – Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA 251), Marine Attack Group (MAG) 14, and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), will be stationed at the service’s Cherry Point, North Carolina, Air Station.

Formerly based at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, VMA-251 was deactivated in April 2020.

The squadron received its first F-35C in September. It differs from the Air Force and Navy variants in that it possesses short takeoff and landing (STVOL) capabilities.
