Sexual assault reports likely will increase by 65 percent in the Marine Corps during 2013, from 2012. The service attributes the spike to increased awareness that coincides with its 2012 Sexual Assault Prevention and Response campaign. “We believe this indicates an increased level of trust between victims and their leaders,” the Marine Corps said in a prepared statement. The Marines also reported that 77 percent of all female members who reported their experiences involving unwanted sexual contact were satisfied with the advocacy services they received. The number compares favorably to the 48-percent approval rate in 2010.
