The society, a private nonprofit charity organization, is offering zero-interest $500 loans to Marines who need the help. The measure is designed to counter predatory lenders that set up shop near military bases, said Marine commandant Gen. James Conway during a town hall meeting at the air station July 11. “All you need to do is show an ID card and a unit, and they’ll pass you about $500 with a zero-interest loan to help you stretch when you’ve got unexpected costs,” he said.
