The Marine Corps is taking steps to ensure that all members know which types of tattoos or brands are appropriate and which are not. In a new service-wide announcement, the service stated that anyone who wants to join the Marines and has more than four tattoos is subject to review. Neck, head, mouth, finger, or wrist tattoos are prohibited for all Marines, as are those that depict sexist, unpatriotic, vulgar, extremist, or illegal activities. So-called "sleeve" tattoos, which cover a quarter, half, or entire limb, are barred if they are visible when wearing standard physical training gear.
