Medals Authorized for Operation Freedom’s Sentinel

Service members who deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Freedom’s Sentinel are qualified for the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Operation Freedom’s Sentinel is the follow-up mission to ensure security in the country now that the combat role has ended. Eligible service members who already wear either medal will receive either a service star or a ribbon device. Eligibility is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2015.
