An interceptor missile launched during a July 5 test from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., failed to hit its long-range ballistic missile target. The Missile Defense Agency, the Air Force’s 30th Space Wing, Joint Component Command, Integrated Missile Defense, and U.S. Northern Command had hoped the Ground-based Midcourse Defense element would intercept the target, which was launched from the Army’s Reagan Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Officials intend to review the mission, to determine why the mission failed.
