The Air Force established a waiver Jan. 26 for the initial term of eligibility of obligated service required for Voluntary Separation Pay. Under the change, ex-enlisted officers with less than four years commissioned service are eligible for VSP if they have served at least five consecutive years of active service. They also must be in a designated overstrength career field and year group combination and have accrued at least six but no more than 12 years of total active federal military service by their requested date of separation. Air Force officials expect to separate 3,206 line, chaplain, Judge Advocate General and Medical Service Corps officers this fiscal year, although only 2,007 applications have been approved, with 40 pending. Numbers over the reduction goal will be achieved via a Reduction in Force board scheduled for June 11-29.
