The amphibious command ship Mount Whitney delivered more than 17 tons of humanitarian aid supplies to the Black Sea port of Poti, Georgia, on Sept. 5, to help citizens who were injured or displaced during the fighting that took place against Russian forces there last month. Supplies included 4,000 blankets that were donated by the U.S. Agency for International Development, juice, powdered milk, and hygiene supplies, according to a Navy press release. Mount Whitney’s port call capped off a series of Navy humanitarian-relief missions that began after hostilities ceased, including 20 continuous missions by Navy transport aircraft, which delivered 325 tons of goods into Tblisi, the Georgian capital.
