The U.S. began moving assets out of the transit center at Manas International Airport, Kyrgyzstan, Oct. 13. The Kyrgyz government would assume full control of the facility by next July, when the agreement for its use that was struck by the two nations is set to expire. U.S. and coalition forces used Manas for the past 12 years as a staging area for military operations against terrorism in Afghanistan and the surrounding region.
