Lt. Gen. John M. Murray has been selected to lead the newly formed Army Futures Command, the service announced July 17. He would assume command pending confirmation by the Senate. The Senate Armed Services Committee has not yet scheduled a confirmation hearing. An infantry officer by training, Murray would come to Futures Command after having served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He presently is chief of staff for programs, G-8.

“The Army can no longer afford to choose between readiness and modernization. We can no longer afford to choose between incremental upgrades to equipment and developing new capabilities. We definitely reached the point where we have to do both,” Murray said, during recent testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
