Now in its second full year, the Assignment Incentive Pay (AIP) program is going strong in the Navy, and budget increases scheduled through 2007 promise to make it an even more useful detailing tool. Originally, the Navy used AIP for detailing to shore billets in Naples; Sigonella, Sicily; and Misawa, Japan. Now, the program has been expanded to include locations in Spain, Guam, England, Okinawa and a few sea-going billets. AIP is open to Sailors in virtually all ratings, as well as members of other services. While negotiating orders to eligible assignments, Sailors can bid in $50 increments up to a certain maximum amount. The orders will go to the member who is best qualified, and makes the lowest bid. For more information, Sailors should contact their command career counselor, or visit staynavy.navy.mil, click on “Counselors,” and then click on “Assignment Incentive Pay” on the dropdown menu.
