Personal data of approximately 28,000 Sailors and family members was discovered on a civilian Web site in late June. The Chief of Naval Personnel is working to identify those individuals affected, and to notify them individually. The Navy Personnel Command call center in Millington will be open for Sailors to call in order to see if their personal data was on the list. The number is 1-866 U ASK NPC (1-866-827-5672). The files have been removed from the site, and the Navy is investigating to determine how and when they were placed on the Web and how to prevent future compromise. There is no evidence that any of the data has been used illegally. However, the Navy has encouraged individuals to carefully monitor their financial accounts and transactions.
