The Navy approved a series of uniform changes, in response to feedback from officers and sailors, aimed at improving practicality. The service dress blue uniform for male sailors in pay grades E-1 through E-6 now have a side zipper on the jumper and a hidden zipper in the trousers. The men’s and women’s service dress white uniform will incorporate a side zipper, front and rear yoke, blue piping on the flap, and sleeve cuffs with blue piping and button fasteners. Distribution for both will begin in October at Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill. Distribution to the fleet will take place by October 2018. A new service dress khaki also received approval; the Navy will release specific details of the changes at a later date. Aviators will see changes in the approved colors of undershirts authorized for wear with flight suits, and an alignment of wear of the flight suit with the Navy Working Uniform Type 1. Beginning July 17, sailors will have the option to wear a nametape on the left shoulder flap of the Navy Working Uniform Type 1 Parka; nametape wear there will become mandatory Oct. 1.
