Naval Station Norfolk, Va., hosted the latest Compass Conference for Navy spouses June 6. This is a program to tell Navy spouses about the Navy lifestyle, said Rosemary Ellis, Compass program director and wife of retired Adm. Jerry Ellis. “The knowledge Compass gives helps command readiness. When a Sailor knows his family is ready, that helps him.” Compass improves quality of life through education and by enabling spouses to understand, experience and meet the challenges of the Navy lifestyle. Sessions are currently taught in 15 locations around the world, with more being added. The 12-hour team mentoring program was developed by spouses for spouses. Open to all Navy spouses, it is presented four hours per day over three days. “Compass” implies finding the way through the maze of Navy life.
