Navy Locates El Faro Wreckage

A Navy search team from the search-and-rescue vessel Apache located the wreckage of the cargo ship El Faro, which disappeared Oct. 1 in the Atlantic Ocean as it tried to make way through rough waters in the middle of Hurricane Joaquin. The Apache crew found the wreckage submerged in 15,000 feet of water Oct. 31 using sophisticated sonar equipment, the National Transportation Safety Board reported. Plans to survey the debris field with a sophisticated CURV-21 remote underwater vehicle are underway.
