In an effort to minimize red tape and delays that sometimes accompany the transition from active duty to civilian or reserve status, the Navy has established a new Career Transition Office. Officers and sailors can expect to feel the new CTO’s presence gradually during the next 14 months. First, the office’s counselors will work with the 1,700 officers who leave the Navy each year, with the goal of encouraging as many of them as possible to commit to the Navy Reserve. Programs for enlisteds, and then reservists, will begin operation in subsequent stages. More information is available on the Navy Personnel Center Web site at www.npc.navy.mil/CareerInfo/Transition/.
