The officers who oversee the Navy’s under mine countermeasures and expeditionary salvage missions will now be known as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers, according to NAVADMIN 364/07. Previously, they were called special operations officers. The change reflects these officers’ core mission, and eliminates possible confusion with special operations missions in the other armed services. EOD officers will wear a new device, described as a gold-plated, mirror-like polished metal pin which resembles the existing master explosive ordnance disposal insignia. The new device will be available in all Navy exchanges no later than April. For more information, contact Cmdr. Charles Andrews, the EOD officer community manager, at (901) 874-4991 / DSN 882, or by e-mail at charles.h.andrews@navy.mil.
