Naval Station Pearl Harbor has received a donation of more than 1,300 books at the Waikiki Outrigger Hotel as part of “Operation Paperback.” Capt. Taylor Skardon, chief of staff, Navy Region Hawaii and commanding officer, Naval Station Pearl Harbor, accepted the donation from Outrigger Hotel and Resort in partnership with the Honolulu Council of the Navy League of the United States. Presenting the books was the Outrigger Hotel’s chief executive officer, David Carey. “We have been collecting books from our employees and the Navy League to donate to the Sailors who are serving our country,” said Carey. Mildred Courtney, a Navy League member and board member of the USO, said this isn’t simply a once-in-a-lifetime donation. “Outrigger is in partnership with the Navy League sponsoring Operation Paperback,” she said. “Outrigger always supports the military. We have already donated 4,000 books to the ships in Pearl Harbor.”
