Now that the Navy’s drawdown is ending, promotion opportunities for the Navy Reserve are set to spike. For example, the chance for promotion to chief petty officer this year will be double that of last year, skyrocketing from 12.7 percent to 26 percent, said officials. The opportunity for promotion to E-6 will jump from last fall’s 15 percent to 26 percent, with 1,415 advancements expected. And E-5 promotions will go from the last cycle’s 19 percent to 35 percent, with 1,736 promotions planned. In addition, for the second cycle in a row, every Sailor who passed the test for petty officer third class will be promoted. This cycle’s count will be 682.
