The Navy’s MUOS-5 satellite reached operational orbit Oct. 22, and began on-orbit operations Nov. 3. As the number in its name would imply, MUOS-5 is the fifth and final piece of a constellation designed to provide significant improvements in communications. Users around the world will be able to send and receive data from a wide array of devices, akin to 3-G cell phone use, for decades to come.
