Sailors must tuck the shirts of their new physical training uniforms during in-port command exercises, under guidelines governing their wear the service issued July 9. Shirts do not have to be tucked in during personal exercise or while on liberty. Commanding officers can set guidelines during sea deployments. Sailors must wear the new PTUs during command and unit physical training, as well as semi-annual physical fitness assessments, beginning Oct. 1. Wearing PTUs for fitness or leisure is permitted as well, unless commanding officers or regional coordinators deem otherwise. Sailors cannot wear the uniforms while on duty status, or when conducting official duty business on base – including visits to galleys, medical treatment facilities, or personnel support detachments.
