A Senate plan to reduce the retirement age of Guard and Reserve members by three months for every 90 days mobilized since Sept. 11, 2001, was tossed out by a joint conference committee for the fiscal 2007 National Defense Authorization Act. Also rejected by the committee was a plan to authorize the Montgomery GI Bill to certain Guard and reserve members for up to 10 years after separating from the service. A proposal to authorize full concurrent receipt to military retirees rated by the Department of Veterans Affairs as 100 percent unemployable also was rejected.
