The Navy embellished the Pacific Fleet with the establishment of Carrier Strike Group 1 (CSG-1), designating the carrier Carl Vinson as flagship. The new strike group will be homeported at San Diego Naval Station, Calif., as part of the U.S. 3rd Fleet. Carrier Wing 17 (CVW-17), the cruisers Bunker Hill and Lake Champlain, the destroyers McCampbell and Mustin, and the frigates Sides, George Philip, and Curts, complement Vinson. The two destroyers and three frigates comprise Destroyer Squadron 1.
