New Littoral Combat Ships Named

The Navy has named the two newest Freedom-class littoral combat ships (LCS) the Milwaukee and Detroit. The vessels, under construction at a Lockheed Martin shipbuilding facility in Marinette, Wis., will perform coastal-security missions once they are commissioned and join the fleet. Each will displace 3,000 tons and be capable of exceeding 40 knots in speed.
