The Department of Defense has established a Post-Deployment Health Reassessment Program that targets service members three to six months after returning from deployment. This new commanders’ program complements ongoing health assessments for members before and immediately upon return from deployment. “Our number one priority is the health and wellness of our service members,” said Dr. William Winkenwerder Jr., assistant secretary of defense for Health Affairs. The department realizes deployments, especially to theaters of combat operations, may result in health or adjustment difficulties for some members. These conditions and concerns often take several months to develop following a service member’s return home. The new program will provide additional education to members on deployment-related health problems and treatment resources. For more information visit https://fhp.osd.mil/pdhrainfo..
