The Navy commissioned its newest littoral combat ship, the Jackson, during a Dec. 5 ceremony in Gulfport, Miss. The Jackson will carry a crew of 53, with the capability of conducting antisubmarine, mine, and surface warfare missions. Like other vessels in its class, Jackson also will be able to launch and recover manned and unmanned vehicles, with the capability of undergoing modifications to suit mission demands. Jackson will be home-ported at San Diego Naval Station, Calif.
