Newest Virginia-Class Sub Named

The newest Virginia-class attack submarine will be named Idaho, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced Aug. 22 in Boise, the state’s capital. Idaho will become the fifth ship to bear the name. Like other vessels in its class, Idaho will displace 7,800 tons, with a length of 377 feet and a 34-foot beam. It will be capable of sustaining speeds of 25 knots submerged.
