Senate Armed Services Committee chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., has agreed to schedule a confirmation hearing for Eric Fanning, President Obama’s nominee to serve as the next secretary of the Army, the Huffington Post reported Jan. 18. While his nomination was held up, Fanning had to relinquish his position and acting Army secretary. If confirmed, he will be come the first gay man to serve as the top civilian leader of one of the armed services.
