Active-duty family members living overseas who are enrolled in Tricare Global Remote Overseas and Tricare Prime Puerto Rico now can get health care from any provider without a referral from their primary care doctor. They may have to pay higher point-of-service charges, however, than if they first got authorization and a referral. Families enrolled under Tricare Overseas Prime already have been paying point-of-service charges. The charges do not apply to families that have other health insurance. Authorization is not required for emergency room or urgent care overseas. Urgent care is for a condition that doesn’t require an immediate emergency room visit but could within 24 hours.
